The equestrian statue of Louis XIV is a bronze equestrian statue of Louis XIV on the Place d'Armes in front of the Palace of Versailles. Until 2008-2009, she was in the main courtyard. The statue was designed by Pierre Cartellier. At his death in 1831, only the initially designed for a horse equestrian statue of Louis XV commissioned in 1816 by Louis XVIII and Place de la Concorde in Paris and eventually will not be realized was complete. The rider is the work of Louis Petitot, son-Cartelier. Everything is cast in bronze by Charles Crozatier in 18381. The proportions of the horse and the king statues are slightly different. First erected in the courtyard of the Palace of Versailles, it was dismantled in February 20062 on the occasion of the reconstruction of the royal gate of the court. Restoring a cost of 500,000 euros was made by Foundry Coubertin3. It has been moved 21 April 2009 on the place of the Palace of Versailles Arms, that is to say in front of the castle. There are also at Versailles another equestrian statue, marble, commissioned by Louis XIV in 1671 to sculptor and architect Gian Lorenzo Bernini. There are other equestrian statues of Louis XIV such as the equestrian statue of Louis XIV to the Place des Victoires in Paris and the equestrian statue of Louis XIV from Place Bellecour in Lyon.
