Places - Lost in Time: The Walled City of Kowloon

Hello, and welcome back to Places - Lost in Time, a series that looks back on the tale of places and locations that have existing within living memory or photographic record, but are now lost to the pages of history. This week, we take a look at one of the most fascinating locations ever to have existed in recent memory, where a quirk of politics and circumstances led an ancient Chinese fortress to become the most densely populated piece of land on the planet earth, thus creating the infamous Kowloon Walled City, a compacted network of squalid tenements and dirty corridors that appeared to have come straight off the set of Blade Runner, belying a long and complicated history that spanned to nearly a millennium earlier.
