Delaware Memorial Half Dollar 1936 |

EN: A short review of the Delaware Half Dollar — a commemorative half dollar issued for the 300th anniversary of the landing of the first Swedish and Finnish settlers in the Delaware Valley (1638–1938). The coin honors the New Sweden colony — the first European settlement in the region. The obverse features the Old Swedes Church in Wilmington, the oldest surviving church in the United States, built by the colonists in 1698. The reverse depicts the ship "Kalmar Nyckel" under full sail, which brought the first settlers from Sweden to the New World in 1638. The coin is interesting as the last classic commemorative half dollar approved by the Mint and was issued exclusively in 1936.
