Albany Charter Half Dollar 1936 |

EN: A short review of the Albany Half Dollar — a commemorative half dollar issued for the 250th anniversary of the granting of the charter to the city of Albany (1686–1936). The coin honors the oldest continuously existing English colonial settlement in North America. The obverse features two men (Governor Thomas Dongan and Reverend Godfridius Dellius) holding the charter, symbolizing the granting of the city's founding document. The reverse depicts a beaver (the key symbol of the fur trade that brought prosperity to the region) within a wreath. The coin is notable for its low mintage and elegant Art Deco design by Gertrude Lathrop.
