Once there was a little boy named Svante, whom everyone called the Kid. He lived with his parents and his older brother and sister in Stockholm. The Kid often felt lonely because nobody seemed to take his wish for a dog seriously. One day, something completely unexpected happened. A small, cheerful man with a propeller on his back flew through the window and introduced himself as Karlsson. Karlsson lived in a little house on the roof and claimed that he was the best at everything. He was funny, mischievous, confident, and, most importantly, he loved causing trouble. The Kid and Karlsson quickly became friends. Karlsson visited him whenever he wanted, and together they played tricks, ate sweets, and got into all kinds of adventures. Karlsson especially loved pressing buttons, breaking things, and then pretending that nothing had happened. The adults, of course, had no idea what was really going on. They thought the Kid was simply making up stories about a strange man who could fly. Although Karlsson could be selfish and mischievous, he was also a wonderful friend. For the lonely Kid, having Karlsson in his life made everything much more exciting. And so, high above the streets of Stockholm, on the roof of an ordinary apartment building, began the unforgettable friendship between a little boy and the most extraordinary flying man in the world.
