Once upon a time in his youth, lawyer Gordon Bombay played hockey. After many years, fate gives him a chance to return to big-time sports again. For the offense, he was sentenced by the city authorities to community service as a coach of a children's hockey team, the worst in the league. Gordon's players don't know how to skate, they miss the goal all the time and are designed only to lose. The lawyer calls his team "Mighty Ducklings" and begins to prepare it for victory.
